About the Founder

Andrew Childs – Founder & Chief Innovator

Andrew Childs is a qualified Analytical Chemist whose career began at the Jockey Club of Southern Africa, testing horses for prohibited substances. Working with state-of-the-art equipment and operating under rigorous quality control systems, Andrew developed two analytical techniques that are still in use today — the analysis of Salbutamol in horse urine and the analysis of Cocaine in jockey urine.

His passion for innovation took him to the UK, where he joined Disperse Technologies PLC. There, Andrew played a key role in developing numerous products across a range of industries using the company’s patented dispersion process. His inventive work earned him a patent for Complex Bi-Liquid Foam technology. Here he worked on converting the technology into advanced Food products, Drug Delivery Systems, Aviation Fuel, Encapsulated Oils and Skin treatments. He won an award, in downtown Manhatten for a picture taken under the microscope in the Nikon Small Worlds Competition.

After two rounds of qualifying redundancies, Andrew became the company’s sole employee — operating single-handedly from a two-storey facility. During this time, he collaborated directly with leading scientists from multinational corporations, helping them overcome complex development challenges. One of his standout achievements was reformulating a P&G skin cream, streamlining its production from a six-vessel, three-day, heated process to a two-vessel, one-day process at room temperature , while maintaining the same texture, odour and performance of the original cream.

Andrew also became the first to formulate a sprayable SPF 50 sunscreen offering true broad-spectrum coverage. Partnering with a marketing team, he extended the technology to full-service product development, formulating high-performance skin creams with unique textures.

His work attracted attention from Virgin Vie, where he was awarded the tender to develop their premium anti-ageing line, “Above and Beyond.” The five-product range became the brand’s top-selling collection. Andrew personally authored the scale-up procedures for two-ton manufacturing at Davlyn Industries USA (Shiseido-owned) and trained their teams on advanced topical dispersion techniques.

Recognising his impact, the company acquired a contract manufacturer Hanworth Labs and the Woods of Windsor brand, and a full marketing division. A purpose-built laboratory was created for Andrew to modernise the entire Woods of Windsor product line within one year — a target he successfully achieved.

Andrew later transitioned into technical sales and business development, first with Kreglinger Europe in Belgium, where he grew the UK business from £60K with two clients to over £800K and a pipeline of more than 150 active projects. He then joined RAHN AG in Switzerland, managing and strengthening their already established UK market.

Driven by his lifelong passion for science and innovation, Andrew left the corporate world to found Frondescent Technologies, a company dedicated to transforming cutting-edge ideas into practical, life-enhancing solutions.

To equip himself for this new venture, Andrew mastered CAD design, 3D animation, and completed advanced training in grant applications — combining scientific expertise with modern development tools to bring visionary concepts to life.

For Andrew, now is the beginning of his career.
